I'm of the opinion that unless your post is about Guild Wars, it isn't contributing, therefore your post count should not go up. Everywhere else on these boards, we delete posts that are off-topic/not contributing. The only place you could get away with making such posts was here, until this change was made. I don't see why you should be able to post non-contributing stuff in one section and increase your post count, but not in any others.

The argument that having a higher post count 'helps' you in other forums is plain ridiculous. Most people who have been around here a while know who is who, and who posts where. If you have thousands of posts all in off-topic, then post in Riverside for the first time, should your words carry any more weight than those of a new user? No, because all you've done is spammed in off-topic.

I was qualifying spam as an increase in posters posting in other forums, not pointless posts, sorry I'll be more specific next time.

So basically King, you are saying that any part of the Off-Topic area, including screenshot, the lore section, should have +0, because right now those still have +1. Also the tech section could fall into that category. The only way to get +1 would be in Riverside and those places plus Campfire etc. Now I have tried to get into the discussions in the Riverside as of late and I feel it is almost imppossible. I consider myself a decent GW player and I know the ins and outs. But the stuff these people are talking about sometimes still make me go "WTF". Why should we punish people that don't want to discuss the game but reward those that go in there and ramble on and on about the same thing over and over again?

I agree with god of spammers, most of the time Riverside simply isn't enjoyable to read when mostly every topic is about BMP and nerf UB threads. This is probably the only thread that anyone can relate to. Besides I see a lot more useless posts in Riverside as well, like when someone asks a question and twenty people reply:

"yes 123456789"

Out of all the forums I visit, MANY of them have a +0 rule in their Off-Topic sections. Why? Because Off-Topic forums are notorious spam centres. So to avoid this, yet give the users a place to spam, they remove post count. It is a good thing, as people can enjoy forum games of all sorts, they can relax and post about anything, but it doesn't end up as a +1 place, as people don't WANT to +1 there (if they were spamming their count up).

In order to improve Off-Topic, removing post count is the best step. You don't HAVE to change forum games, but maybe making better ones (ie, not single word post ones) would also help it.

There is NO reason why having +0's would make it worse, or be a bad thing. Clearly the people who think removing post count is bad, are simply here to +1 themselves up ranks. No one cares about post count. If you want to +1, +1 in a more contributory nature, ie, in REAL forum sections, that have discussions. Off-Topic is for games, and should be +0'd.

You guys claim you stay away from riverside and such because the threads are bad and you don't want to be flamed. So you guys claim that you come to OT to spam and have fun. No problem with that. What I don't understand is this - what do +1s have to do with having fun and playing games? It's not like you get respect for your post count or user title and it's not like they give you any bonuses.

QFT. Post count doesn't matter when you use the forum, the quality of your posts do. People don't care if you have a post count of 5 or a post count of 5,000, as long as your post makes sence.

I still don't see why this thread went beyond the suggestion to remove post count entirely.

But removing the off-topic is not a good idea to me. I think it woudl increase the spam everywhere else.

I wouldn't mind cleaning up the off-topic getting rid of the forum games. I know people like them but I think they are just +1 threads really.

I agree with Pwned here with this, i only post in games for fun my post count is just a bonus i think, but it is not like i need it.

And Pwned and i wil free of charge bewill our manpower to clear the OT

Hmm

Anyways. I don't really see why it isn't reinstated yet. If we really want to have postcount +1 in relation to guildwars. Other parts of guru should be removed from +1 also.

Ya I know but when Las did it I couldn't exactly report spam.

But really I am kinda now leaning towards just get rid of post count all together then.

Anyone noticed something lately? Ever since the +0 implementation the new spammers are gone from the OT. I won't mention names but the old guys know who I speak of. I have seen many of them over in the Riverside posting. But they are simply posting simple answers or just saying one word posts. They just moved their spam elsewhere and have slightly disguised it.
